The Celebration of Pentecost: Your Weekly Catholic Reflection
“God’s Spirit renews the earth.” – Psalm 104
Today, the Season of Easter ends with the celebration of Pentecost. On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, an event that marks the beginning of the Church. Jesus commissioned his disciples to continue the work he had begun saying, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” He breathed the Holy Spirit upon the disciples and sent them into the world to continue his work. Jesus’ act of breathing the Holy Spirit mirrors God’s act of breathing life into Adam at the time of Creation. In fact, both the Greek and Hebrew words for “spirit” can also be translated as “breath.”
With your prayers, support, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we recently made a dream come true—a new hospital for women, children and the community of Côtes-de-Fer. By working together toward a common mission to serve, we turned a dream into a construction site that is now the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Center for Health.
On Pentecost, let’s all pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to work through us to bring love and compassion to the most vulnerable women, children, and communities, wherever they live.
Your generosity ensures that projects like the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Center for Health will continue to change lives. Learn more today.
