Overview
The Programs Department plays a critical role in helping CMMB achieve its vision by leading the provision of high-quality programs focused on saving lives through children’s and mothers’ health, and particularly in the development and implementation of the CHAMPS model. This Department is also responsible for generating revenue from and partnering effectively with government(s), bilateral and multilateral donors, corporations, foundations, and other public and private partners. It also strives to position and enhance CMMB’s technical capacity and reputation in the field of global healthcare.
The Program Officer, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Programs and Volunteers, will serve a multi-functional role supporting the Programs Department through its operations domestically and at abroad. S/he will be comfortable wearing many hats daily and engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. S/he will be responsible for coordinating programmatic funding and supporting the full portfolio of programs in alignment with CMMB’s global strategy. This position will be based in the US and may require short-term travel to South Sudan, Kenya, Zambia, Haiti and/or Peru.
Responsibilities
Program Analyses and Support
- Holistically analyze and make recommendations related to performance of individual Country Offices by closely monthly burn rates
- Provide general operational support to all Country Offices, as necessary (including administrative support, documentation reviews, procurement guidance, funding transfers, vendor contract negotiations, or partner assessments)
- Occasionally manage the full cycle of unique or strategically important grants, including support to Mother of Mercy Hospital in Nuba Mountains, Sudan
- Assist project kickoff process (coordinate the programming of funding by liaising between HQ departments and with the country offices, support capacity surge needs in country, help Country Director’s prioritize and juggle new activities)
- Manage IDIQ procurement and shipping contracts
- Monitor essential CMMB registrations and vendor contracts
- Assist development of Country Office fiscal year budgets and maximizing direct charges to restricted resources
Grant Coordination
- Track total revenue received through program channels
- Archiving documentation for all programmatic funding (grant agreements, sub-awards, consortium documentation, project amendments)
- Support proposal development process as directed by assisting on budgets, narratives, certifications/registrations, and coordination with other departments (such as Partnerships or Finance)
- Assist Country Offices with developing quarterly, annual, and final financial reports for USG, multilateral and private donors and ensuring grant or contract terms and conditions are met
- Assist Country Offices in local level grant and documentation reviews
SVP and Departmental Support
- Provide administrative assistance to SVP of Programs and Volunteers
- Board of Director Program Committee support (coordinate meetings and member availability, produce presentation materials, draft meeting minutes, and host calls)
- Coordinate departmental weekly meetings
- Lead/Coordinate departmental budgeting process (allocating NY time to projects, drafting budget notes for non-salary UNR needs)
- Provide logistical support for international conferences (Country Directors and Programs)
- Provide support to program team members international travelers, as needed
- Lead quality control reviews for program and country office operations (including final proposal checks, teaming agreements, procurements)
- Oversee current events and developing situations that threaten CMMB’s operations

Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of related non-profit experience.
- Strong communication, teamwork, interpersonal, diplomatic, cross-cultural and business process skills
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and databases
- Ability to multi-task effectively under tight deadlines and strongly organized
- General knowledge of accounting, finance, and cash flow
- Good general knowledge of CMMB’s operating environments and staying abreast of international affairs
- Strong analytical thinker
- Experience with grants, contracts, and/or USG cooperative agreements
- Knowledge of US government compliance regulations and NICRA
- Demonstrated interest in or knowledge of maternal/child health, nutrition, water/sanitation, or HIV/AIDS

Overview
The Office of the President is responsible for leading and coordinating CMMB’s global strategy and all cross-cutting operational activities across the entire internal and external stakeholder environment, including global staff, donors, partners, and working with and supporting the Board of Directors.
This position reports to the President and CEO and provides executive as well as some administrative support to the President and the Board of Directors, as well as the Executive Team. The position acts as the liaison to the Board of Directors and will take on a project management role in organization wide activities including priorities of the executive leadership team, organizes and coordinates executive outreach and external relations efforts, and oversees special projects.
Responsibilities
Cross Cutting Organizational Priorities
- Project manage the roll-out and regular updating of policy framework and continuous compliance strengthening
- Assist in design thinking for strong user experience of improved intranet and shared files system in the cloud
- Contribute to review of new governance materials and policies to be created and vetted with Board of Directors as part of restructuring CMMB global family
- Participate in planning of staff retreats
- Collaborate with other departments to lead, manage and/or take part in special projects
Board Support
- Serve as project manager for board meeting preparation; board member recruitment, onboarding, engagement and offboarding.
- Serve as principal board administrator: ensuring adherence to by-laws, assurance of board compliance; board calendar, meeting preparation and material distribution; maintenance and updating of relevant documents; and coordinating and maintaining board committee meeting minutes and materials.
- Maintain Board-related charts and tracking tools to reflect Board member terms, diversity, Committee leadership and service
- Serve as a primary point of contact for each member of the Board and be accessible to the Directors: an effective problem-solver with whom the Directors enjoy interfacing.
- Develop annual plans for annual board self-assessment and continued board education and engagement
- Manage the upkeeping and storage of important Board of Directors documents, including but not limited to: By-Laws, committee lists and charters, historical minutes and materials.
- Track annual Board approved actions
- Support the CEO and Board Chair in the preparation of a coherent and relevant agenda for quarterly Board and Governance & Advancement Committee meetings.
- Create clear timelines and guidelines for board committee materials and reports; Coordinate with key management staff to prepare and deliver board notifications and reports.
- Schedule and manage the logistics (catering, hotel—as needed, transportation) for in-person Board meetings, Board dinners, Board field visits which may include major donors, and other events as requested.
- Attend quarterly Board meetings to provide onsite support and to take official meeting minutes.
- Track and maintain records of Board and committee meeting frequency and members’ attendance.
- At the request of the Executive Committee of the Board serve as the Assistant Secretary of the Board of Directors.
- Manage annual board compliance materials to ensure adherence to Board Governance Policies and Procedures, including COI, CoC, and filing of fiscal year minutes in the annual audit.
- Maintain Board contact lists, bios, committee lists, and other relevant information
CEO Support
- Assists the CEO with daily administrative duties and completes a broad variety of administrative tasks that includes co-managing calendar, arranging complex and detailed travel plans, and compiling documents for meetings.
- Coordinate calls, meetings, itineraries, agendas, and strategic activities.
- Prepare internal communications for CEO engagement with donors and staff.
- Support CEO outreach to major donors, foundations, and corporations in coordination with resource mobilization teams.
- Engage in annual forecasting, budgeting, and management of the expenses of the Office of the President.
- Establish and maintain timely project tracking tools and serves as liaison to staff teams across the organization to ensure effective transfer of information about Board activities.
- Oversee the collection, compilation, preparation, and distribution of background materials for the Board and the Governance and Advancement Committee meetings in a timely and accurate manner.
- Executive Team Support.
- Attend Executive team meetings and assist with agenda creation, follow-up points.
- Plan annual retreat of Executive Team.

Overview
The Senior Specialist, Private Grant Proposals, will lead and support the development of high-quality grant proposals for organizations, corporations, foundations, and other donors to support CMMB’s strategy around improving the health of women and children, especially for our signature program, Children and Mothers Partnerships (CHAMPS). The Senior Specialist will also manage an assigned portfolio of prospects and donors, will work in a highly collaborative cross-team environment across departments and country offices and with the technical staff. The Senior Specialist will ensure that proposals are compliant with donor requirements, technically clear, accurate, and in alignment with CMMB’s style, branding, and global strategy.
Responsibilities
Proposal Development
- Lead proposal development and technical writing for grant opportunities from organizations, foundations, and corporations, as assigned.
- Monitor the competitive landscape, identifying and evaluating new grant opportunities.
- Maintain donor relationship records and track opportunities in the Raisers Edge database.
- Collaborate with Business Development team colleagues to test new approaches, adopt best practice strategies, and brainstorm responses to emerging situations.
- Research, analyze, develop, and track relationships with new prospects and existing donors.
- Produce proposals, project progress reports, organizational capability statements, pitch materials, and other documents.
- Collaborate and participate in the entire grant proposal process, including background research, design conceptualization, log frames, revisions, submission, and follow-up. This includes collaborating on proposals’ technical content and budget planning.
- Lead proposal-related meetings, both in the US and at the country level as necessary.
Grants Coordination
- Manage, track, and support relationships with an assigned portfolio of donors.
- Coordinate quality and timely cross-departmental reporting to ensure successful grant fulfillment in accordance with MEL and donor requirements across five country programs, generating custom quarterly and annual reports to donors, as assigned.
- Support the writing and editing of programmatic reports and technical documents, using analytical skills to identify programmatic strengths and weaknesses.
- Collaborate with Business Development team members to build the capacity of local country office teams for proposal and report writing.
- Assist compliance and finance staff in reviewing, processing, and reconciling invoices to budgets.
- Coordinate fulfillment of donor requirements for grants and contracts in assigned portfolio

Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in a public health-related field (particularly an MPH) preferred.
- 5 years’ experience in the development of global health-related grant proposals submitted to organizations, corporations and/or foundations.
- Progressively responsible experience in development, with a proven record of accomplishment in securing institutional funding from a variety of sources. Proven success in securing large-scale, complex, multimillion- dollar bids is highly desirable.
- Experience with various private grant rules, regulations, and policies.
- Familiarity with the motivation of faith-based funders is strongly desired.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Demonstrated professional writing, editing, and communications skills appropriate for competitive proposal submissions.
- Ability to juggle multiple demands, manage shifting priorities, and negotiate timelines.
- Demonstrated skill in using terminology and concepts related to global health issues.
- Knowledge of technical areas surrounding maternal and child health, nutrition, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS.
- Familiarity with a variety of private funding sources and associated grant proposal processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in teams under tight deadlines.
- Ability to create engaging and compelling text while maintaining technical accuracy and adhering to length limitations.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative information.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, and significant experience in using various software, database tools and platforms.
- Experience submitting online grant proposals via corporation or foundation portals.
- Knowledge and experience with Raiser’s Edge CRM preferred.
