Program Summary
The Programs Department plays a critical role in achieving CMMB’s strategy around improving the lives of women and children, by leading the provision of high quality programs focused on children’s and mothers’ health, and particularly in the development and implementation of our CHAMPS model. This team is also responsible for generating revenue from and partnering effectively with government(s), major foundations, and other major donors, and will help to position and enhance CMMB’s technical capacity and reputation in the field of global healthcare.
CMMB has been working in Kenya for almost 15 years. CMMB works to ensure that the most vulnerable populations, especially mothers and children, have access to quality services in health care, health promotion and illness prevention.
Overview
Reporting to the County Director – Kenya, the Communications Officer is an integral part of both the Country Office and New York communications teams. He/she will be responsible for identifying, collecting and cataloguing stories and images about CMMB’s work and other relevant topics through interviews and content gathered from beneficiaries and staff. He/she will further be responsible for vetting, obtaining necessary approvals and posting content on a multitude of platforms for numerous audiences. This role will require travel to in-country project sites for in-person interviews and content gathering. The role will also require photography skills and collection of appropriate release forms.
The Communications Officer will also be required to work with the New York communications team, participating in weekly status meetings, reviewing proposed and or drafted content. He/she will also be responsible for local external communications directed by the country office, including press releases to local media, website, social media, and in-country partners.
Additionally, the position is responsible for communications support, including writing and developing content that supports various program areas in the organization. The Communications Officer will be responsible for providing content that is engaging, informative, and visually appealing to be distributed across local digital and social media channels and local media outlets. This is a highly collaborative role requiring working across time zones, countries, and teams.
The role will function as an internal journalist and should adhere to the ethics and brand guidelines set by CMMB at all times. This role requires a true go-getter who is comfortable connecting with people and getting to the core of a story.
Responsibilities
Story and Image Gathering
- Responsible for finding inspiring stories within country programs, working with staff and beneficiaries, and volunteers
- Post, manage and monitor social media accounts
- Engaging in interviews with staff and community members to get firsthand accounts of CMMB’s impact and the challenges faced
- Responsible for diligent recording and documentation of content gathering (stories/interviews/images) and transcriptions into English when necessary
- Tasked with cataloguing stories into appropriate and organized filing system
- Tasked with taking compelling and respectful images of CMMB’s work in action, including staff in action, project sites, and more
- It will be the Comms Specialist’s responsibility that all required consent forms are completed, properly stored and shared
- Encouraged to teach staff and community members to share photos
- Work collaboratively and support professional photographers contracted to capture projects when scheduled
Branding
- Ensure that all materials adhere to the voice, branding and marketing requirement
- Responsible for ensuring staff have branded materials and clothing, especially during a communications-related shoot day

Social Media
- Provide content and strategy for local CMMB Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages
- Execute posting of content on a consistent schedule to be determined by country leadership
- Responsible for monitoring of local social media and escalating any concerns regarding social media to upper management
- Create strategy to increase engagement and reach in local communities, helping disseminate health information and stories to local people
Release and Protocol

Public Relations
- Working with local media to promote CMMB stories in local press

Qualifications and Experience

Overview
Reporting to the Vice President, Development and working together with the Major Gifts and Direct Marketing team, the Planned Giving Officer is responsible for managing cultivation, solicitation, acknowledgement, recognition, donor research, and stewardship of a portfolio of current and prospective planned gift donors. This includes all activities that relate to the retention, growth and tracking of CMMB’s planned giving donor portfolio.
The Planned Gift Officer will have comprehensive knowledge of the technical aspects of various planned gifts and the related tax regulations. Experienced in raising major gifts through bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and other complex gift arrangements, the Planned Giving Officer works with donors and their financial and legal advisors to secure both outright and deferred gifts in conjunction with donors’ needs and CMMB’s priorities.
Responsibilities
- Develop strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals who would benefit from gift planning as part of their personal and charitable goals.
- Develop a multi-year plan to generate leads and increase revenue through marketing of CMMB’s portfolio of Planned Gift opportunities. Collaborate with Major Gifts and Direct Marketing team to integrate Planned Giving messaging as part of a broader communications strategy.
- Create individualized solicitation strategies and identify planned gift opportunities that match donors' interests.
- Ensure all donors are tracked accurately and acknowledged appropriately. Provide support in gift entry, donor record updates, and generating donor acknowledgments for planned gifts as required. Assure accurate, comprehensive data capture, reporting, and analysis for all planned giving efforts against key performance indicators.
- Manage planned giving inquiries, including by phone, email, website, and email marketing software and databases.
- Identify and steward planned giving prospects; increasing CMMB’s portfolio of committed Planned Gift donors for stewardship.
- Create charitable gift annuity proposals and draft gift illustration contracts in PG Calc and manage the gift fulfillment process to completion.
- Manage the closure of planned gifts from estates, retirement vehicles, and other sources through probate until gifts are received in database. Conduct reviews of completed documents to ensure that they comply with the CMMB’s standards, IRS guidelines, and are in CMMB’s best interests.
- Supervise vendor selection, management, and coordination of logistics for Planned Giving and Charitable Giving Annuities (CGA) mailings, and other communications, either in-house or with mail house printers.
- Keep current with and knowledgeable of new trends in planned giving; be aware of new or pending tax legislation.
- Cultivate relationships with attorneys, trust officers, accountants, financial planners, and other estate planning professionals. Exchange up to date information on current best practices.
- Create monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for Planned Giving goals, objectives, and progress
- Manage the annual Planned Giving revenue and expense budgets.
- Oversee all required state filings for the Planned Gift and CGA program, as well as any relevant audits. Ensure that all planned giving activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing non-profit business operations.
- Collaborate with colleagues on cross-cutting activities and projects. Contribute to a strong culture of philanthropic values and donor-centric service; and oversee/manage special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

Overview
The Senior Specialist will serve as a key member of the Communications Team. S/he will support implementation of the communication strategy to achieve CMMB’s strategic goals.
This position will be responsible for supporting the development of fundraising and other donors’ communications to support overall organizational needs, including fundraising emails, weekly reflections, direct mail, telemarketing, ads, special donor acknowledgement communications, and others as needed. The Senior Specialist is also responsible to support the development of some cultivation communications including postcards and special touches to donors, as well as the annual report. S/he will coordinate the development of editorial content and support video content to meet CMMB global needs.
The position requires strategic thinking, innovative ideas, exceptional writing and editing skills, and the ability to convey complex ideas clearly using consistent messaging and storytelling tactics.
The Senior Specialist will be responsible for supporting the development of key messages and brand strategy and play a key role in ensuring their consistent use throughout the organization. In addition, the Senior Specialist is responsible for day- to-day communications support. - Build and cultivate relationships with editors and journalists, manage database of targeted writers and publications.
- Identify conferences and schedule appearances of various CMMB staff.
- Manage the current CMMB college clubs and grow the base of colleges and university participation.
- Help develop volunteer program communications opportunities, leveraging the strong relationship CMMB has with our volunteer base (active and past), and increase their visibility at conferences, meetings, and events.
Brand and Advertisement
- Support the development and implantation of CMMB’s brand strategy, ensuring consistency use throughout the organization.
- Support development of global collateral materials, and promotional and written materials, supporting CMMB’s presence at conferences, meetings, and events.
- Support development and delivery of US-based brand merchandising.

Social Media and Internal Communications

Oversight
- Manage all rating agency updates (including Charity Navigator, GuideStar and others) to ensure all information is accurate, up to date, and in line with producing top ratings.

Overview
The Specialist, Private Grant Proposals, will lead and support the development of high-quality grant proposals for organizations, corporations, foundations, and other donors to support CMMB’s strategy around improving the health of women and children, especially for our signature program, Children and Mothers Partnerships (CHAMPS). The Specialist will also manage an assigned portfolio of prospects and donors, will work in a highly collaborative cross- team environment across departments and country offices and with the technical staff. The Specialist will ensure that proposals are compliant with donor requirements, technically clear, accurate, and in alignment with CMMB’s style, branding, and global strategy. This position will be based in New York City.
Responsibilities
Strategy
- Lead proposal development and technical writing for grant opportunities from organizations, foundations, and corporations, as assigned.
- Monitor the competitive landscape, identifying and evaluating new grant opportunities. Maintain donor relationship records and track opportunities in Raisers Edge database. Collaborate with Business Development team colleagues to test new approaches, adopt best practice strategies, and brainstorm responses to emerging situations.
- Research, analyze, develop, and track relationships with new prospects and existing donors.
- Produce proposals, project progress reports, organizational capability statements, pitch materials, and other documents.
- Collaborate and participate in the entire grant proposal process, including background research, design conceptualization, log frames, revisions, submission, and follow-up. This includes collaborating on proposals’ technical content and budget planning.
Grants Coordination
- Track, manage, and support relationships with assigned portfolio of donors. Coordinate quality and timely cross‐departmental reporting to ensure successful grant fulfillment in accordance with MEL and donor requirements across five country programs, generating custom quarterly and annual reports to donors, as assigned.
- Support the writing and editing of programmatic reports and technical documents, using analytical skills to identify programmatic strengths and weaknesses.

Overview
Reporting to the CEO & President, the Vice President (VP) of Development serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting CMMB. In partnership with the ET, this position is responsible for leading efforts on private individual fundraising, communications and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build CMMB’s d financial resources in support of expanding our results. The VP, Development also will support the development of an organization-wide plan for developing key external alliances to increase efficiency and impact.
The VP, Development will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a certain budget through the solicitation of major gifts, direct marketing, monthly sustainers, digital fundraising, planned giving and periodic special events. The VP will also oversee efforts to increase the organization’s visibility and brand identity, supervising the Director of Communications. The VP will coordinate closely with staff who manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation grantors who provide restricted and unrestricted resources.
She or he will expand and diversify CMMB’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, the VP will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.
