Adriana Barturen, RN
Adriana earned a Master of Science from the Clinical Nurse Leader Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and a Bachelor of Science in Public and Community Health from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is a registered nurse both in Maryland and in The District of Columbia in Washington. Adriana spent more than three years in the role of community health nurse, working at a federally qualified health center caring for the underserved and immigrant population. She is passionate about global health and social justice and is dedicated to continuing this work as she advances in her career. Adriana is bilingual, and her excellent Spanish was an important qualification for her volunteer assignment in remote Trujillo. The language allowed her to build relationships and trust with the people in the community she serves.
Adriana says, “I learned so much about Peru’s public health system and the role of nurses in the public health field in Trujillo. There is still so much work to be done both at the clinic and out in the community, but my main goal was to play a part in identifying pertinent public health issues within a region or a community and assist in developing strategic ways of mitigating these issues within a multidisciplinary team approach.”
