Byron works for Order of Malta (OoM) in Guatemala, a longtime partner of CMMB’s Medical Donations Program.
Although Byron has an IT background and was initially hired to implement a software solution to track the donations of gift-in-kind (GIK) product being received and distributed by OoM, he became fascinated by other subjects that contribute to a successful GIK program. On his own initiative, he enrolled in a program offered by the Ministry of Health in Guatemala to learn about pharmacy operations as well as health and nutrition in emergencies. Byron additionally realized that reporting on the impact of donations was indispensable to a successful program. Therefore, he pursued and completed a degree in Communications in 2018 while still working full time for OoM.
President of OoM, Enrique Hegel described Byron as a man with “robust personal values”. During the pandemic, he worked on his own time to deliver food and clothing to people living in remote, nearly unreachable areas of Guatemala. He takes pride in capturing accounts of the impact OoM donations and giving a chance for often-overlooked beneficiaries to tell their stories. Bryon also oversees the Disaster Care Program, which organizes rapid purchases of food for deployment to victims of disaster. Hegel continued “It is a great privilege for us to have a collaborator such as Byron, who iso so committed to the success of the programs under his responsibility and the well-being of people in need—our reason for being.”
Thank you, Byron!
