Nathan (Nate) Simms III is currently the Director of Compliance and Risk Management at the UNC-Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy, one of the top Schools of Pharmacy in the United States. Nathan’s primary responsibilities include management of the School’s research compliance and adherence program, supporting the School’s leadership with the development and management of contracts that the School or its different Divisions enter into and, building and embedding a compliance culture that is seamless and transparent, applies to students, faculty and staff, improves the ability of the School and it members to operate in an increasingly compliance impacted environment but also does not hinder the innovative research and collaborations for which the Eshelman School of Pharmacy is renowned. Prior to joining UNC, Nathan had a successful 16-year career with GlaxoSmithKline driving public and private program health policy development and execution, product access strategy and adoption, specialty brand marketing, and team leadership. His leadership roles included Regional Vice President of State Government Affairs, Regional Vice President of Managed Markets Access, Director of Public and State Policy and Senior Director of HIV Brand Marketing. Prior to embarking on a commercially focused career, Nathan initially joined GSK as a Senior Counsel in the GSK Legal Department after starting his legal career in private practice in Chicago. 

Nathan is a graduate of Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service with a degree in International Politics/International Relations. Nathan followed his studies at Georgetown with work in the graduate program for Political Science at the University of Chicago before moving onto study and receiving his JD from the University of Chicago Law School.  

Nathan has previously served on the Junior Board of the Chicago Historical Society and the Board of Directors of the Chicago AIDS Foundation. Nathan also has a passion for and has committed significant amount of his personal time to mentoring and coaching young men, in particular, African American men. He was a member of the Blue-Ribbon Mentor Program in Chapel Hill, NC and served as an assistant high school football coach for Chapel Hill High School for 10 years. 

Nathan joined the CMMB Board of Directors in 2024 and will serve on the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.
