Former President & CEO, Bon Secours

Richard Statuto retired on September 1, 2019 after overseeing the merger of Bon Secours and Mercy Health Systems to form Bon Secours Mercy Health, one of the largest health care systems in the country. BSMH operates in more than 1,000 sites of care across Ohio, Kentucky, New York, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina and Florida. Serving as President and CEO of Bon Secours until 2018, Mr. Statuto lead a $3.5 billion not-for-profit Catholic health system with more than 30 facilities in six eastern states and a staff of more than 24,000. Responsible for Bon Secours’ strategic and operational leadership, Mr. Statuto provided oversight to its global ministries, which focused on maternal and child health. His healthcare management career has spanned for more than 25 years, including work in planning and marketing at Bon Secours during the 1980s and later as president and CEO at St. Joseph Health System before his return to Bon Secours in 2005.

Mr. Statuto served as Chair of the Board of Directors of Premier, Inc. from May 2013 to August 2019. He continues to serve on the board and currently chairs the Nominating and Governance Committee. Mr. Statuto has also served as Chair of the Catholic Health Association Board of Trustees, as Vice Chair of the Board of Dallas-based Christus Health System, and as a board member for Kmart, Mercy Housing, Covenant Health System, and the American Red Cross.

Mr. Statuto joined the CMMB Board of Directors in 2015 and serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and the Governance Committee Chair. He also serves as the interim Audit Committee Chair and is a member of the Finance Committee.
