Grief fills the verses of this week’s Gospel. Lazarus has died, and his sisters are devastated. When Jesus finally arrives, he weeps with them. Then he performs a miracle. Jesus calls Lazarus out of the tomb and back into life.

We may not be performing miracles, but the fifth theme of Catholic Social Teaching reminds us that work is more than a job. It is an expression of human dignity. Every worker deserves to be seen, protected, and supported. Yet in underserved and remote communities, healthcare workers carry enormous burdens—and something as basic as clean water is not guaranteed.

This World Water Day, we reflect on water as a foundation of care itself. At CMMB, we work to ensure that health facilities have access to clean, safe water, because healthcare workers cannot protect life without it. They show up every day in the hardest places, and they deserve the tools to do so safely and with dignity.

On this Lenten Sunday, Easter draws closer and urges us to reflect on the promise of new life, health, and happiness—and that those who labor faithfully to protect it deserve our gratitude, our solidarity.

P.S. Meet a real donor who is helping us expand access to water for an entire community in South Sudan. We are inspired by his values, integrity, and generosity. Read more here
