In today’s Gospel, the disciple Peter steps out of a boat and walks across water towards Jesus. But when he feels the strength of the wind, fear overwhelms him. He starts to sink, and Jesus reaches out to him, reminding Peter that there is nothing to fear.

We will face our own storms, but Peter’s experience reminds us that our faith will show us the way through.

Across the world, communities experience moments of uncertainty when the need for care is urgent. In rural Guatemala, firefighters at Station No. 135 were ready to respond when their neighbors experienced an emergency, but limited access to essential medicines and medical supplies left them fearful that a call would come and they would not have the supplies they needed to respond. Like Peter, we may sometimes feel overwhelmed by the challenges before us. In these moments, may we find comfort in Jesus’s words to His disciples: “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
