Meet the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, A Community of Giving
The Good Shepherd Catholic Church recently shared how they nurture a community of generosity and compassion for those in need around the world. They involved children, from preschool through fifth grade, in a project to learn about the lives of families in South Sudan and to come together to make a difference in their lives. Trina, the Director of Religious Education, shared the following letter with us, and included a few prayers from the children themselves.
Dear Friends at CMMB,
Thank you for your work and for the information about your ministry and volunteers that you post on your website.
Enclosed is a check reflecting the amount that the children of our Vacation Bible School Program (VBS) have collected in care and concern, especially for the children of South Sudan. On the first day of VBS, our children received 4 slips of paper to remind them to pray each of the remaining days of VBS and to think about how much the children of Africa need clean water, protection from disease, medicine and healthy food. Our children learned from your website that they could help provide mosquito nets, medicine, and maybe a goat for a family.
They were excited to be able to know that they might be able to make a difference in the life of another child. They know that they are not yet old enough to be an Aurora Volunteer like your Dr. Daniel (he grew up in our parish), but they know that their prayers and gestures of support can be felt in a small way.
Again, thank you for your work; thank you for all the information that you share so that the children here can better understand the lives of children living in other places in the world.
God bless you, the work that you do, and the people you serve.
Peace,
Trina
Director of Religious Education
P.S. Enclosed are a few of the prayers of the children.
