Description of Partnership:
The Loyola Foundation is a family-based charitable organization primarily dedicated to supporting overseas Catholic Mission Activities in less developed countries. The Loyola Foundation has created a longstanding partnership with CMMB.
In Zambia, the Loyola Foundation provided vital assistance to acquire and install a portable ultrasound machine, greatly improving clinical services at the hospital and allowing the facility to cope with an influx of new patients. With the addition of this machine, doctors are able to make faster diagnoses and patients have access to high-quality ultrasounds at much lower rates than at other facilities.
In Peru, the foundation supported the installation of ecological toilets and other building improvements.
In Kenya, the Loyola Foundation supported the purchase and installation of a portable ultrasound machine for use at the Mutomo Mission Hospital, significantly enhancing care provided by the hospital, particularly for pregnant women. Previously, pregnant women had to make an expensive two day journey for similar services at higher costs. Having the ultrasound machine has reduced costs for patients, helped doctors preempt obstetric emergencies like obstetric hemorrhaging, and protected mothers and their children from high-radiation machines like x-rays and CT scans.
Following these successes, in 2018, the Loyola Foundation gave CMMB a special $100,000 grant to provide partial support for CMMB’s efforts to construct and equip a surgical wing and blood bank at St. Theresa Hospital in Nzara, South Sudan.
