Today we joyfully celebrate Pentecost Sunday – the holy day when our faith community rejoices in the coming of the Holy Spirit. On this day we are reminded of the gifts the Holy Spirit bestows on us:

Wisdom and understanding,
Counsel and fortitude,
Knowledge and piety,
and wonder and awe of the Lord.

This year, Pentecost happily coincides with International Day of Families. What a beautiful coincidence indeed, for it is within our own families that we find the perfect place where these precious gifts can be shared.

Join us in celebrating the gifts of the Holy Spirit!  Let’s remember on Pentecost and on the International Day of Families that they help us strengthen our commitment to one another, especially those we hold most dear.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.

Lord,
by the light of the Holy Spirit
you have taught the hearts of your faithful.
In the same Spirit
help us to relish what is right
and always rejoice in your consolation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
