Joyful Voices in Zambia – Your Weekly Catholic Reflection
Sing to the Lord a new song. – Psalm 96:1
Today we’re celebrating World Mission Sunday. Mission is at the heart of the Christian Faith.
The Church’s mission is based on the transformative power of the Gospel. Through the Church, Christ continues his mission as the Good Samaritan, caring for the bleeding wounds of humanity, and as Good Shepherd, constantly seeking out those who wander along winding paths that lead nowhere. [The] Gospel helps to overcome narrowness, conflict, racism, and to promote everywhere, and among all, reconciliation, fraternity, and sharing.
In this spirit of joy, we’re sharing sacred music sent to us by Dr. Helene Calvet, one of CMMB’s mission trip participants in Zambia. Dr. Calvet says, “I was inspired by the faith, spirit, and charisma of the people I encountered in Zambia. I was filled with joy, watching crowds arrive to attend mass. The church is alive and strong in Africa.”
Dr. Calvet was moved by the choir singing the Alleluia in Bemba at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Livingstone. On Mission Sunday, we believe Dr. Calvet’s experience is an appropriate reminder of the hope and joy that our work can bring. We pray that this music will uplift your spirits and that you will be moved to share it with family and friends.
