What is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday is an organized day of global giving. It was founded in 2012 by the 92nd Street YMCA in New York City, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. The idea behind #GivingTuesday is that together we can do so much more than we can do alone. In our work at CMMB, we call that idea “collective impact.” By partnering with governments, corporations, foundations, faith leaders, and especially compassionate individuals, we can truly make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable women and children. On #GivingTuesday, we’re sharing a call to action our most important partners, good friends like you.
On #GivingTuesday last year, our generous CMMB family raised more than $25,000 to share the Gift of Goats with 2,500 people living in extreme poverty in Haiti. The Gift of Goats is helping vulnerable families and giving women and children the extra nutrition and income they need. Goats provide milk for children, fertilize home gardens so they produce more, and baby kids are like money in the bank for a family in need.
Based on last year’s incredible response and generosity, we’re doubling our #GivingTuesday 2017 goal. That means we have just three days to raise $50,000 to help 5,000 people with the Gift of Goats, and we’re expanding our reach to families in Haiti and Kenya. For the poorest families, a little goes a long way. Through a special match campaign, all #GivingTuesday donations will be doubled. By working together we can help twice as many families with:
Why should you be part of #Giving Tuesday?
Mother Teresa reminds us, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” So, now that we’ve finished celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends, and before we are drawn into the rush of Christmas gift-giving, tree-trimming, and holiday fun, #GivingTuesday gives us a chance take a moment and think about others who don’t have the resources we have. #GivingTuesday is a time to stop and reflect on the blessings we have and share them with women and children living in extreme poverty.
