Solimar is the Community Leader for Villa Lobos Health Clinic in Guatemala, a beneficiary facility of CMMB’s Medical Donations Program.
Villa Lobos is a neighborhood in the city of Villa Nueva. The area is poor, with most residents living on minimum wage (less than $12USD per day). Additionally, the local infrastructure is stretched by a settlement of 88 families who were relocated to Villa Lobos from other parts of the country by the government. The Villa Lobos Health Clinic is the only source of free medical care and medicine available to the population, including those new settlement.
Solimar serves as a vital bridge to connect the community and clinic—informing community members of doctor’s hours; following up with patients on appointments; coordinating the clinician requests for medical donations to ensure that patients can fill the prescriptions they have received. Solimar’s positive impact on the community is clear to see. Thanks to her efforts, the clinic has the trust of the community, and patient health is improving. She says that she is so happy to have the opportunity to help the many people in the community who suffer from chronic diseases and would have to go untreated were it not for donations of medicine. She is an MDP HERO!
Thank you, Solimar!
