Strength, Resilience, and Leadership—Your Weekly Reflection

On this first Sunday of Lent, our Gospel guides us through Jesus’s experience being tempted in the desert. We read that he was weary and hungry. But he never wavers. Empowered by his faith, Jesus reminds us, “One does not live on bread alone.” Words like strength, resilience, and leadership, all come to mind when we read about Jesus in today’s Gospel. These are the same words that come to mind when we think about the many women who are touched by our mission at CMMB.
We witness strength, resilience, and leadership in these women daily. Here are just a few examples how:
- We see strength in the mothers who travel great distances over challenging terrain to ensure their children receive quality healthcare. Sometimes, they travel on a motorbike. Other times, they travel on foot or in the back of an oxcart.
- We see resilience in the community health workers, who are committed to reaching every pregnant woman in their community. Their goal is to support healthy deliveries and joyful beginnings.
- We see leadership in the mothers who are passing down healthy habits to their kids, embracing empowerment opportunities, and forging a path for equality.
Today, while we reflect on Jesus’s actions in the desert, we are also thinking about the women whose actions we look up to in our work—because when women thrive, so do their communities.
In recognition of International Women’s Day yesterday, CMMB’s global team shared a special message.
