Building the Bridge for Peace—Your Weekly Reflection

In our Gospel, Jesus shares comforting words: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.”
For us at CMMB, it’s a reminder that peace has no bounds. It is not fragile or fleeting. It is not dependent on circumstance. It can be found in God’s love. And it calls on us to serve one another, walk together, and build a better world. We only need to be willing to listen.
We know that peace is not only the absence of conflict, but also the presence of health, dignity, and opportunity. Given the state of the world—the conflicts that persist, the hunger that won’t yield, and the diseases that are treated for some but the loss of life for others—we may be struggling with the question: Is the world listening?
In his first address, Pope Leo XIV said, “We are disciples of Christ, Christ goes before us, and the world needs his light. Humanity needs him like a bridge to reach God and his love. You help us to build bridges with dialogue and encounter so we can all be one people always in peace.”
At CMMB, we cherish the light that shows us Jesus’ path. As we continue along this journey together, we will listen and we will echo the call for peace. As Pope Leo XIV reminded us, we can build the bridges—bridges that unite divisions, borders, and broken systems. His words reinforce that peace is not something we wait for. It is something we create, together.
