Last week, we dedicated our reflection to World Day of the Poor and remain inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s message and the global response it received. The message centered on hope, and by the end of the day, our hearts were overwhelmed by it. Today’s Gospel reaffirms the value of hope.

During Jesus’s crucifixion, two criminals speak to Him. One of the men speaks to Jesus with doubt. The other speaks with humility and faith. It is to him and his expression of faith that Jesus says, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

For us at CMMB, this moment reminds us that hope is never lost, and there is great strength in compassion—even in the face of suffering. We witness this daily. Our teams provide healthcare and support to families in some of the world’s most challenging circumstances. We meet people with respect, dignity, and hope amid suffering.

Every act of service is an act of compassion that can change a life. What is more hopeful than that?
