Today, we join our faithful community to observe World Day of the Poor. This year, Pope Leo XIV calls on us to open our hearts to our brothers and sisters in need and to recognize the deep and resilient hope they embody. In the midst of hardship, hope is our anchor.

In our Gospel, Jesus speaks of hardship. “All that you see here—the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down,” Jesus says to people discussing a temple.

The people asked Jesus more questions, like when this would happen and what signs they would see. Jesus told them that they would not only witness the signs but also be challenged by them. It would not be easy, but Jesus would be with them, salvation awaiting.

This message is both a comfort and a call to action for us at CMMB. Just as Jesus walks with us through difficulty, we walk alongside communities facing poverty and uncertainty. Even when the obstacles seem overwhelming, we hold hope as our anchor and bring care to those who need it most.

On this World Day of the Poor, we carry this spirit forward with our commitment to Pope Leo XIV’s invitation to serve and to hope.
