Impact in Partnership

With proper treatment, people with noncommunicable diseases like diabetes can live healthy lives. But in low- and middle-income countries like Bangladesh, many cannot afford or access the medicines they need. The devastating result is 41 million preventable deaths globally each year. Thanks to almost three decades in partnership with Merck & Co., CMMB can deliver donated medications to treat those living with chronic diseases.
Hope with Lifesaving Medicine
Life in Bangladeshi refugee camps is challenging. But in this unlikely place, 37-year-old Tosmin found hope.
Tosmin arrived in Bangladesh after fleeing violence in Myanmar. She is one of the over 800 million people around the world who live with diabetes. Like many patients, she had never before received treatment.
At a health facility supported by CMMB’s partner MedGlobal, Tosmin was prescribed Januvia® (sitagliptin) to help manage her disease. She received it for free thanks to the more than 88,000 bottles of Januvia® donated by Merck and distributed worldwide by CMMB. This is enough to treat 7,755 patients like Tosmin for a year.
“Here, I finally feel that someone cares about my health,” Tosmin shared. “The medicine helps me control my sugar levels, and the health workers explained how to eat better. It gives me
hope that I can live a normal life.”
“We are grateful for our decades-long partnership with CMMB. Together, we strive to support vulnerable communities and help patients worldwide through our product
donations,” stated Allison Goldberg, Merck’s Executive Director at the Office of Social Impact & Sustainability.
With your support, and because of extraordinary partners like Merck, we are supplying high-quality medicines in the most vulnerable places—bringing health to people like Tosmin.
