Overview

CMMB Catholic Medical Board (CMMB) seeks an MNCH Advisor to work with our dynamic team on improving maternal and child health and overall health in the Western Equatoria region. This position will provide strategic guidance and leadership to a multiyear health systems strengthening project in the areas of maternal, newborn, and child health service packages. The successful candidate will work directly with CMMB project managers, county program coordinators, county health departments, the state ministry of health, and the departments of reproductive health to produce cutting-edge interventions for MNCH among the communities in the project target population.

The MNCH advisor will provide technical assistance to improve the coverage of quality child health services with a focus on high-impact interventions at household and primary health facility levels, including Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM), water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), prevention of maternal transmission of HIV/AIDS to newborn infants (PMTCT), facility-based skilled birth attendance, newborn resuscitation, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for the design and implementation of an integrated and context-appropriate MNCH package at community, primary health facility, and referral levels.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to CMMB project managers and county coordinators on strategic and operational planning and project implementation related to MNCH services.
  • Ensure effective strategic planning, coordination, and monitoring and evaluation of MNCH activities by county health teams.
  • Develop and maintain intersectoral collaborations for the effective delivery of MNCH services at primary health facility, referral, and community levels.
  • Collaborate with other project technical advisors and use routine data to ensure synergy and responsiveness of MNCH activities.
  • Document project results and impacts related to MNCH activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related field.
  • Five to seven years of work experience, of which three years have been in community-based MNCH project or implementing relevant health-based community development programs.
  • Demonstrated technical capability and experience in developing and influencing public health policies, strategies, and programs at community, county, state, and national levels.
  • A proven track record as a strategic partner and team leader, with strong technical knowledge and conceptual and analytical ability.
  • A proven track record in provision of effective technical support in MNCH.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to effectively communicate across cultures.
  • Proven experience in training and mentoring staff and community members, and strong knowledge of community capacity building of team members and government and community counterparts.
  • Familiarity with project indicators, quantitative and qualitative data to monitor overall project performance.
  • Experience working with a USAID/DfID-funded project.
  • Previous experience in activity design and implementation of an HPF project beneficial.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites.
