No Matter How Many Steps—Your Weekly Reflection

In today’s Gospel, we witness Jesus’s actions in a temple of Jerusalem. Here, as people sell oxen, sheep, and doves, Jesus delivers a passionate demand: “Take these out of here, and stop making my Father’s house a marketplace.” The dialogue that follows is a revealing moment in our faith—and an opportunity to reflect on the steps we take to achieve our goals.
Hearing His words, the people in the temple ask Jesus for a sign. They want to know why they should listen. Jesus says, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”
The people do not understand how Jesus could achieve such a feat. But we learn that Jesus is not actually speaking about the temple. He is speaking of Himself and the coming of His Resurrection.
At CMMB, we return to this moment in the temple when we feel overwhelmed. It is a steadfast reminder to trust the path that our work leads us down—no matter how many steps we must take to achieve our mission.
Eventually, the disciples understood the truth in Jesus’s words. And eventually, the many steps we take at CMMB will achieve our own truth: That all people deserve to live in communities that foster their health and well-being.
