Michael P. Hilbert

Father Michael P. Hilbert grew up in White Plains, New York. He joined the Jesuits in 1973 and was ordained a priest in 1983, at the Fordham University Church. He pronounced his final vows in 1991 in Rome. Father Hilbert is a 1969 graduate of Fordham Preparatory School. He went to Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where he had a double major in International Relations and German. He spent his junior year in Freiburg, Germany and graduated from Colgate in 1973. Father Hilbert spent his early years as a Jesuit in Asia, teaching in the Philippines and studying Mandarin in Taiwan.
Father Hilbert’s theology studies were taken in Rome, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology from The Pontifical Gregorian University. He went on to specialize in canon law, receiving a doctorate with honors in 1990. Most recently he was President of the Fondazione La Gregoriana in Rome and is on the board of the Gregorian University Foundation here in New York. During his years in Rome, he was a professor of canon law, Academic Vice-rector of the university, and judge on various church tribunals.
Father Hilbert joined the parish staff of St. Ignatius Loyola in October 2014. Father Hilbert joined the CMMB Board of Directors in 2015 and serves on the Advancement Committee.
