Former EVP/Chief Financial Officer, Bon Secours Health System (BSHSI)

Janice Burnett retired March 1, 2019 after working collaboratively to ensure the successful merger of Bon Secours with Mercy Health in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 1, 2018.  She held the EVP/CFO role at BSHSI since March 2012.  As CFO, Burnet functioned as a strategic partner to the CEO, improving BSHSI’s market position, strengthening the balance sheet, upgrading the credit position to an A+ positive.

Bon Secours Health System, Inc (BSHSI) was a $3.4 billion net revenue not for  profit catholic health care system with 19 hospitals, over 1000 employed physicians, long term care nursing care centers, assisted living facilities, home care & hospice, spanning 6 states on the east coast.  Through the merger of BSHSI and MH, Bon Secours Mercy Health became one of the largest and strongest Catholic health care systems with $8.0 billion net revenue, 43 hospitals, thousands of providers and 57,500 employees in 7 states.

Burnett managed all aspects of the financial operations of the organization, maintained high quality and accuracy of the organization’s internal financial and accounting control systems, and provided financial leadership, strategy, vision and finance transformation.

Burnett has 28 years of experience in health care finance, with another 5 years at BSHSI as VP of Finance Operations, 5 years at Ascension Health, a national not-for-profit catholic health care system at that time in 20 states and 11 years with BJC HealthCare System/Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.  Prior to her healthcare finance career, Burnett worked for Ernst & Young as an auditor.  She holds a CPA–Inactive and a CMA.  And served 4 years in the United States Air Force.

Burnett has a MBA from Maryville University, St. Louis Missouri (1998) and an undergraduate in accounting from Wright State University, Dayton Ohio (1988).   Burnett is currently a member of SSM Audit & Compliance, SSM Finance & Investment, and SSM Retirement Board Committees in Missouri; and the Sisters of Bon Secours International Congregation, Stewardship Board Committee and subcommittees as needed.  She had served previously as a member of Bon Secours Richmond Board in Virginia; Charlestown Continuing Care Center in Maryland; and Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital in Missouri.

She joined the CMMB Board of Directors in 2020 and serves on the Audit Committee.
