Mwende is a mother of six who has been working as a Community Health Worker (CHW) for four years. She is part of the Kisii Community Unit and linked to the Kituti dispensary, which serves women and children in a remote, rural community. As a CHW, Mwende visits households to provide health education and explain the importance of hygiene and sanitation. She also educates mothers on proper nutrition and immunization for children. Mwende also encourages pregnant women to visit the dispensary to receive antenatal care and delivery. In addition to her CHW duties, Mwende supports her family through farming. During the short rainy seasons, she farms sorghum, millet, cowpeas and green grams and also has a small kitchen garden. Mwende is passionate about her role as a community health worker and looks forward to seeing improved maternal and child health in her community.
