The Healing Mission—Your Weekly Reflection
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reveals his healing mission. His actions leave witnesses in awe. For us at CMMB, we are left feeling inspired, committed, and grateful for his presence in our mission.
When we begin reading, Jesus has arrived in the district of the Decapolis. The people have brought a deaf man to see Jesus. They beg Him to heal the man.
Away from the crowd, Jesus “looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, ‘Ephphatha!’ — that is, ‘Be opened!’ — And immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly.”
Despite Jesus’ direction to keep the events that unfolded quiet, the witnesses found that they could not.
“The more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it. They were exceedingly astonished, and they said, ‘He has done all things well.’”
How do you interpret the witnesses and their reaction to the healing? At CMMB, we continue to celebrate not only this miracle, and others Jesus performed, but also the intention and belief behind them.
At CMMB, we walk in the footsteps of Jesus’ healing ministry to defend and strengthen access to healthcare around the world—and we aren’t alone. Our volunteer blog is filled with stories and reflections about what inspires our professional volunteers. We are grateful their motivations led them to CMMB.
