Last week, we read about Jesus’ expectations for his followers. We also learned how Jesus defines community. In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to understand his relationship with his community further—to understand the sacrifice one opens their hearts to as a follower of Jesus.

Our Gospel begins as a man runs up to meet Jesus. The man asks, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Jesus reminds him of the commandments, but the man explains that he has followed them since he was young. Then, Jesus reveals what the man has yet to do—what he has yet to sacrifice.

“You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me,” Jesus said.

At CMMB, we believe our global community is called to serve one another—to serve our brothers and sisters in need. When made with good intentions, true compassion, and solidarity, no act is too small, no sacrifice too little.

Our international volunteers know this firsthand. Their sacrifices alone drive transformational impact. But through service, they also witness the collective impact you contribute to as a supporter of CMMB. Your contributions and the sacrifices you make to give travel far. They help keep hospital shelves stocked and community health workers trained and equipped. They help give sick children back their childhoods and so much more.

Thank you for helping us deliver healing, health, and hope around the world.
