I amCelebrating My Mother Because:

As a young child, I don’t ever remember feeling alone, afraid, hungry, bored or unhappy growing up with my family in Natick, Massachusetts. The main reason I felt secure and valued was my mom, Jane Hladick. As the oldest of five, we were all blessed to have an unselfish, practical, loving and hard-working and hard-nosed mother to take care of us and teach us by example. I wouldn’t change a thing about my childhood and how many people can say that?

How my mother has inspired me: 

My mom worked in the town hall for years and when the elected position of Town Clerk became available she decided to run for the office. Although uniquely qualified, as the assistant town clerk for years, and a loyal employee she did have to run against an opponent for the job. With no college education, limited public speaking and no political experience she was challenged by a Harvard educated man from town who believed he was the better candidate. She won by a landslide and I admired the home town loyalty she had earned and the trustworthiness and hard work she portrayed during the race. She held this office for multiple terms, never challenged by another opponent until her retirement.
