A Catholic Meditation

It’s not easy being a father. Fatherhood is a sacred, lifelong commitment and a calling. We look to fathers to guide our faith, to share wisdom and practical judgment, to set an example of leadership, for protection—and most important— we look to fathers for love.

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. – 1 Corinthians 16:13

Pope Francis shared this message for fathers worldwide:

I ask that you have the grace to be very close to your children, letting them grow, but being by their side. They need you, your presence, to be there, your love!

Sadly, many of the children we serve do not know a father’s love. A life of hardship, extreme poverty, and illness means that some fathers die too soon. Others, unable to cope, lose hope and abandon their families, leaving mothers and grandmothers on their own. This is the case with many of the children identified for inclusion in our Angel Investor program—their families are the poorest of the poor. We’re blessed when Angel Investors like Joe, take on a fatherly role, supporting healthcare, food, or education for children who live thousands of miles away. Joe writes:

I have a very real sense of connection to the lives of my two AngelsKamau and Jonel.  These boys are being raised by mothers and grandmothers. They don’t have fathers. Through the Angel Investor Program, I can see my modest gifts helping two very deserving boys in real, tangible ways.  I know that God did not bring Jonel and Kamau into my life by accident.  No, he brought two boys into my life who needed a little help, to allow me the privilege of sharing my blessings with them.  And he also knew I needed the blessings that come from that sharing, and I am without doubt, being blessed beyond measure!

On Father’s Day, our CMMB faith community is doubly blessed—with a loving father in Heaven and by the many remarkable men who work tirelessly to support our mission to bring healthcare to women and children living in poverty with dignity and love. Please keep them in your prayers on this special day.

Wishes for a Blessed and Happy Father’s Day from Everyone at CMMB!
