Volunteer role: Public Health and Nursing in Trujillo, Peru

Thing you are most proud of: Having the opportunity to work in global health and development through CMMB and to serve the people of Peru.

Imagine you are stuck in an elevator. Who would you like to be stuck with? If i were stuck in an elevator with someone, it would have to be with my mom. She is my number one supporter and best friend. We get along so well, so it would be comforting knowing that I will have her by my side to keep me company despite being in a very uncomfortable and precarious situation such as being stuck in an elevator, but we could manage. Together, we can overcome anything.

If you were asked to sum yourself up in 2 words, which two words would you choose?  Determined and compassionate

You will be featured in the NY Times – what is the headline?  “Public Health Specialist, Adriana Barturen, Helps Develop New Strategies to Improve Population Health and End Urban Violence and Poverty in Underserved Communities in the U.S. and Abroad.”

What is your biggest pet peeve? Litter bugs and traffic jams.

If there was one question you would like to be asked in an interview, what would it be?

My question would be: Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

My answer: I see myself combining my clinical expertise in the field of public health working with UNICEF, USAID or CDC focusing either on domestic public health or international health issues either in policy development or project development and management.

What would be your theme song? Girls by Beyonce. Girls definitely run this world!

If you were an animal – which would you choose to be and why? If I were an animal, I would probably be a bird. I could fly anywhere I want to, and when I want to. I would head south to escape the cold weather and enjoy some incredible scenic views while I am soaring high up in the sky.
