In this Sunday’s Gospel, we read one of the most enduring teachings of our faith and a beloved call to action for us here at CMMB: the parable of the Good Samaritan. When asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus offers a story. It reminds us that love for our neighbor knows no bounds and no convenience. To love our neighbor is a feeling put to action. It is a choice made with compassion in our hearts. We are witnesses to the Good Samaritan taking action. He didn’t walk away from suffering. He stopped, he helped, he gave. He went above and beyond. Jesus ends the parable with a simple, direct command: “Go and do likewise.”

At CMMB, we take this call seriously. Our work is grounded in Catholic social teaching and in the belief that every person is our neighbor—no matter where they live or what they face.

This week, as we reflect on this Gospel, our hearts are heavy following the catastrophic flooding in Texas. The grief is immense, the destruction is shocking, and the people of Texas need their neighbors.

We share our heartfelt appreciation to those who answered the call to be Good Samaritans—showing up with strength, compassion, and resolve during this crisis and others around the world.

May we each ask ourselves this week, How can I go and do likewise? Let us hold close our neighbors both near and far, and pray for peace, protection, and strength in the face of adversity.
