This Sunday’s Gospel is one of those passages that may come as a surprise. Jesus tells us that He has not come to bring peace, but to start a fire—one that calls us to choose what’s right, even when it’s hard, and build our path to peace.

But the right path is often bumpy. To walk it, we must stand firm in our values, even when it feels uncomfortable or goes against the grain.

What does our fire look like?

At CMMB, it looks like showing up for our neighbors, especially the most vulnerable, in ways that aren’t always convenient or simple. It looks like delivering medicines to remote communities and committing to fixing a fractured supply chain. It looks like supporting families in crisis and advocating for health workers on the frontlines. It looks like reflecting back on our Catholic Social Teachings, and the values that guide us, when a bump in the road looks too challenging to pass.

When we serve with courage, compassion, and faith, we help kindle the blaze that Jesus started for us. And while the path may be difficult, the reward is a world more filled with light, healing, and peace.
