A Single Act—Your Weekly Reflection
We learned in last Sunday’s Gospel, that news of Jesus’ miraculous healings have reached people far and wide.
This is reaffirmed for us in today’s Gospel, too:
It is not long before Passover when a crowd arrives before Jesus and his disciples. Jesus asks his disciples how they will manage to feed everyone—but Jesus already knows the answer.
One of his disciples, Andrew, sees a boy among the crowd with five loaves of bread and two fish. But Andrew questions what good that would be to a crowd of thousands. But again, Jesus already knows the answer. Jesus says: “Have the people recline.”
With just five loaves and two fish, Jesus then feeds 5,000 people. The crowd proclaims: “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.”
What does this miracle mean for us today?
At CMMB, it serves as an important reminder that even a single act can cast a long-lasting ripple, forging an impact with each breaking ring. A mother whose newborn is saved during a complicated delivery will encourage other expectant mothers to give birth at the hospital—just as she did. A child who learns how, and why it’s important, to purify water will someday go on to teach her children the same healthy practices.
These are just a few examples of how a single act can change lives. And they are possible thanks to you.
