Catholic Social Teachings urge us to love our neighbor. When Jesus tells His disciples in today’s Gospel about the importance of welcoming others with kindness and love, our minds are drawn to our neighbors around the world.

At CMMB, a neighbor is not just the person who knocks on our door to borrow some sugar or the officemate to our right. A neighbor is the pregnant woman in Zambia seeking a safe place to stay so she can be close to the hospital when it comes time to deliver. It’s the first-time mother in Peru who feels alone and uncertain after just giving birth. It’s the mother in South Sudan who fled home with her young family to escape insecurity. At CMMB, our neighbors are our brothers and sisters in need. And as our faith asks of us, we welcome our neighbors with warmth, empathy, and the services that help ease their suffering.

Not long ago on World Refugee Day, we recognized the experiences of our global neighbors facing forced displacement. Nyadoni was one of these neighbors in South Sudan. Displaced from her home with four children, she struggled to find healthcare for herself and her family. It was especially dangerous since Nyadoni was pregnant and without prenatal care. You can read her story and learn how CMMB and our partner stepped in with warmth, empathy, and the services she needed.
