Are You Prepared? – Your Catholic Weekly Reflection from CMMB
Keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. –Matthew 25:1-13
Dear Friend,
In today’s gospel from Matthew, Jesus tells the parable of the wise and foolish virgins, teaching his disciples the importance of being prepared to receive the Kingdom of Heaven. Caught up in our daily activities, we can easily forget to attend to our spiritual lives. We’re too busy. There’s not enough time. But, if we don’t make our spiritual life a daily priority, prayer, reading Scripture, and acts of faith may become just occasional activities rather than daily practices.
Each day, our faith calls us to serve the most vulnerable women and children. We believe that through our daily work in remote communities, we have a chance to make a difference. We try to make God a priority in our lives by following the example of Jesus. A few weeks ago, our team in Kenya met baby Kennedy who lives in a very poor, rural community. Kennedy’s mother, Wanza, loves her children, but a cognitive disability means she struggles to care for them. Kennedy’s father, David, does what he can, but each day is a challenge. The family is so poor that they eat only one meal each day. Wanza is still nursing Kennedy, but her own poor nutrition impacts her baby, who is always hungry. Kennedy’ father, David, says:
“I pray to God daily to help my family. I wish I could give my son a better life.”
Jesus taught us that it is important to keep ourselves ready to receive Him. By opening our eyes, ears, and hearts to children like Kennedy, we continue the tradition of our faith to put the needs of the most vulnerable before our own. Kennedy was identified by our team in Kenya because of his very low weight, health needs, and extreme poverty. With the support of a special Angel Investor, this child’s life could dramatically change for the better. Please pray for Kennedy, and all the vulnerable children served by CMMB.
Heavenly father, I am your humble servant. Please share your healing graces with children in need and surround them with your comforting goodness. Bless them with health in mind and body, and with a heart filled with hope and peace. Amen.
Wishing you a week filled with reflection, prayer, and reminders of God’s love every day.
Yours in grace,
