Meet Margaret, Program Champion
Margaret has been a donor for over fifty years, and she is a direct supporter of our Rehabilitation for Hope program in Peru. We recently got the chance to talk with Margaret about her personal connection with our work and what she finds most inspiring.
I began supporting CMMB in about 1962. I am most impressed by the wonderful people working for CMMB in difficult circumstances, many times in dangerous conditions, far from their own families, vulnerable to changing political climates. Regardless, these missionaries ignore those situations and move forward with courage and determination.
I see reports about the wonderful progress taking place in areas where CMMB is working. The Rehabilitation for Hope program in Peru is a wonderful example of what CMMB is able to accomplish with a group of people who have been ignored by society. The program provides therapy to children who have various handicaps. It also allows the parents and family members of these children to form a bond which is helping them to fight the stigma of having handicapped children and focus on improving their children’s lives. I am especially committed to this program since I have a grandnephew with special needs. Now I understand personally how these seemingly small improvements in a child’s life can not only open a whole new world for the child, but how much happiness a family receives when they see the gains made by the child.
The CHAMPS program in Africa is also a wonderful outreach to women and children who can suffer from cultural indifference. Finding adequate water sources, providing schooling for the children, and training the women to become more self-sufficient can make life happier and healthier for families. Also, as a Catholic organization, I believe that CMMB has a deeper reason – not only to give medical or social care to those they are ministering to, but to also see those people as their equals in the eyes of God, to make their lives better, more hopeful, healthier, safer and happier.
