Five Ways to Share the Gift of Health This Christmas

As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, many of us are busy shopping for our loved ones. But the most precious gifts come without fancy bows. Love, peace, togetherness: these are more valuable than anything we set under the Christmas tree. So is the gift of good health.
At CMMB, we serve women and children who have little access to basic healthcare. We bring care closer to home in vulnerable communities in Haiti, Kenya, Peru, South Sudan, and Zambia. Guided by our faith, we help families gain a healthier future, filled with more holidays spent together.
During this special season of giving, CMMB’s Gifts of Health catalog provides meaningful ways to change a life, with symbolic gifts that fit a range of budgets.
Here are five gifts to help families in need live healthy lives for years to come:
1) A handwashing station
Washing hands with soap and water is a simple way to stop the spread of disease. But in many of the communities we serve, water is scarce, and soap is not always readily available. A simple handwashing station helps families keep their hands clean and avoid illness.
2) Newborn kits for new mothers
Every mother should have access to the basic supplies she needs to care for her newborn. Our newborn kits contain a basin for bathing, soap, a blanket, and diapers, so new moms can keep their babies healthy and safe.
3) Emergency nutrition for 25 children
Nearly half of all early childhood deaths are linked to malnutrition. Emergency nutrition, like a ready-to-use therapeutic food called Plumpy’Nut, can save a child’s life when they are suffering from severe malnutrition.
4) Personal protective equipment for health workers
CMMB-supported health workers bring quality care to some of the world’s most hard-to-reach places. To stay safe as they save lives, they need reliable personal protective equipment (PPE), like gloves, masks, gowns, and other protective gear.
5) An oxcart to transport pregnant women to a health facility
Every two minutes, a woman dies from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. Most of these deaths are preventable. But in many parts of the world, transportation is limited. For a woman in labor, the long walk to a health facility becomes an impossible journey. An oxcart can safely and more quickly transport a pregnant woman to the care she needs for a safe delivery.
This year, celebrate Christmas by giving the gift of good health. We invite you to shop our Gifts of Health catalog and honor a loved one while bringing healthcare closer to families in need.
The gift items in our Gifts of Health catalog are symbolic representations of the many programs and tools CMMB uses in their work. Allowing us to deliver medical assistance to some of the world’s most vulnerable communities, your gift will be used where and when it is most needed. When your gift is combined with those of our other supporters, it becomes even more impactful to the people and communities we serve.
