Light, Hope, and Health—Your Weekly Reflection

In today’s Gospel, we return to a symbol that means a great deal to us at CMMB: light.
Jesus tells his disciples that they are the light of the world—never to dim, always to guide. At CMMB, the light of our faith brings us comfort and hope. In times of hardship and uncertainty, it keeps our mission moving forward with confidence that we will reach the light at the end of our path. But that’s not all.
We pray that through our work to share health and healing, we are a source of light for those we serve—a source of hope. In a conversation with our former Board chair and current Board member, Steve Sichak, we reflected on what’s at the heart of CMMB. His words remind us of our mission’s true impact:
Our work is about hope as much as it is about health. In places like Haiti or South Sudan, conflict is ongoing. Life is a challenge day by day, hour by hour. When a CMMB-supported community health worker shows up to check on a family, to make sure they have seen the doctor and that they get the medications they need, or to ensure a pregnant woman is comfortable, we are not just delivering health; we are delivering hope, too. CMMB helps those we serve realize that someone cares about them, even in the most challenging circumstances.
