Meet Juan di Dios and his mom Jany
Juan de Dios suffers from cerebral palsy, a chronic condition that leads to a host of physical and cognitive challenges. Since his diagnosis, Jany, Juan’s mother, tried to find treatments that would allow him to have a future with opportunities. They encountered many challenges and a lot of stigma which made a challenging life even more difficult. This is unfortunately common for children living with disabilities and their families.
Luckily, they found CMMB. Today, he is part of the Rehabilitation with Hope program. Rehabilitation with Hope is a community-based service program in Peru, which assists children with physical and cognitive disabilities by providing much needed access to quality therapy, and is based on the implementation of the World Health Organization’s community-based rehabilitation model. Additionally, Jany has participated in technical workshops that helped her to develop skills for economic entrepreneurship. As a project beneficiary, in addition to learning new ways to support her son’s development, and to contribute to her family economy, Jany also has a renewed sense of confidence.
