In today’s Gospel, Jesus challenges our perception of wealth and generosity. With his disciples, Jesus reveals what a true act of generosity is—and what it is not.

Jesus and his disciples observe the Jewish temple and the contributions made by visitors. Those who were rich donated large sums, while those who were not donated small sums.

Whose act of giving was the greatest? Do we measure in dollar amounts alone? Jesus shares the answer:

“Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.”

At CMMB, Jesus’ perception of wealth and generosity reminds us that our sacrifice is never too small, so long as it is made with genuine intention and generosity.

This new week brings World Kindness Day on November 13. It is a fitting day to put our learnings into action and consider one sacrifice we can make fueled by intention and generosity. Consider this task with the knowledge that your sacrifice will never be too small in the eyes of Jesus.
