Tom Catena, MD

Education: Medical degree from Duke University.

CMMB Volunteer Role: Doctor at the Mother of Mercy Hospital in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Before moving to Sudan, he was a military doctor and also worked in the slums of Nairobi in Kenya.

Interesting Fact: Tom Catena was the winner of the 2017 Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity!

Affectionately known as Dr. Tom by the people in the Nuba Mountains. He is the only doctor at hospital that serves a population of more than half a million people. He is on call 24/7 and sees as many as 500 patients a day!
