You are a prophet!

The coming of the Lord is a key theme of the Advent season. In today’s Gospel, Matthew reminds us that every one of us is called to be a prophet of Christ, to announce the coming of the Lord each day by the way we live, love and share with others.

In our work, we are blessed to bear witness to so many acts of love, sacrifice and generosity, and to see Jesus in unexpected places along the way:

  • A grandmother, raising grandchildren on her own in Haiti, climbing a tree to fetch a coconut for a thirsty community health worker who walked miles to visit.
  •  The seat of honor and cups of tea, shared with our volunteers, in a desperately poor, child-led household in a city slum in Zambia.
  •  The faith and determination of the Sisters who are the heart of mission hospitals we partner with in Haiti and Kenya.

In today’s Gospel, John the Baptist’s words urge reflection, action and change. As we’ve observed first-hand, sometimes the smallest acts are the most meaningful.

As we journey together this Advent on the path toward Christmas, let’s remember to ask:

What will I do, today and every day, to prepare the way of our Lord?
