The Lord hears the needy. – Psalm 69:33

In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds his disciples to stay focused on God. Poverty, hardship, sickness, and suffering cannot always be avoided or prevented. But Jesus reassures the disciples that God knows and cares about what happens to his children. Sometimes he relies on earthly Angels like Mary Ann to hear the cries of the poor.  Mary Ann writes:

I received an email about CMMB’s Angel program on April 30th, which was the anniversary of my mother’s death, and thought that this would be a good way to honor her memory.  All the stories touched my heart, but I was especially drawn to Mwendo and Etiene.  I couldn’t pick one and leave the other, so I decided I could commit to school fees for both, and honor the memories of both my Mom and Dad that way.

I have been familiar with CMMB almost my entire life, as it was my mother’s favorite charity for many years.  At the time of her death in 1989, I received a letter from CMMB saying that she had been a faithful supporter for 34 years.  Over the years, I have supported CMMB as best I could at various times. I appreciate the work, and the efficient, effective use of donations. I think the Angel program is excellent and I am finding it very fulfilling.  Seeing the challenges that Mwendo, Etiene, their moms, and their communities are facing is very humbling and puts a lot of things into perspective.

Some might say that Mary Ann’s commitment to a better life for two children she’s never met is a leap of faith. But isn’t faith necessary as we try to live a truly Christian life? Today, we’re reassured by the promise that God always cares for us and protects us.  Let’s live God’s promise fully by sharing his love each day.
