CMMB is dedicated to reducing the causes of preventable death among children through effective and affordable means, one of the most important of which is vaccination. We are therefore excited that the GAVI replenishment conference in Berlin has ended with participants pledging more than the $7.5 billion-dollar funding goal, and we welcome the considerable resources this makes available to children in need and their care-givers.

UNICEF estimates that thirty million children are currently unimmunized, and therefore susceptible to preventable diseases such as measles, tetanus, and the flu. With the funds raised, GAVI and their many partners around the world, including CMMB, will be able to vaccinate 300 million children over the next five years, an intervention that could save between five and six million lives.

Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah and Assistant Administrator Dr. Ariel Pablos-Mendez of the United States Agency for International Development have pledged $1 billion to the five-year campaign on behalf of the US government.
