For Mvolo County, as part of the Integrated Service Delivery Project, CMMB was tasked with increasing community access to quality primary healthcare services in 10 health facilities—standardizing, functionalizing, equipping, and staffing them, with the County Health Department. The project provided a minimum package of services that comprised focused antenatal and postnatal care, care of uncomplicated delivery, emergency obstetric and neonatal services, and services for sexual and reproductive health. Insecurity sometimes made facilities inaccessible; economic crises and health system frailties, including the supply chain, were tenacious challenges. CMMB worked to motivate staff and build their skills; improved linkages; provided technical advice; educated school children about health; and taught home health promoters about danger signs in pregnancy and use of misoprostol to prevent hemorrhage. We also trained boma health committees to strengthen health facility governance. Work on this project was performed under a subcontract from Jhpiego.
