A Catholic Meditation on the Gospel

Today’s Gospel asks us to believe in Jesus Christ as the food of eternal life, sent from above to feed the world. We are asked to believe His bread and wine will be a source of spiritual nourishment to help us through life. While we may not know exactly how this happens, we have the affirmation of Christ that this life-giving food will give us spiritual strength.

“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
—John 6:35

We experience this in our daily life when we are faced with challenges and asked to practice faith even though the odds may be against us or outcomes may seem bleak. Jesus invites us to bring anything in our life that is unsettled or out of place, and turn it over to Him.

At CMMB, our deep commitment to follow Jesus’ example is at the core of what we do. This is what drives us to reach out and help those experiencing poverty, starvation, and suffering.

CMMB’s long history of Catholic charity includes aiding Mother Teresa’s mission work in 1978 by providing $5,000 worth of medicine every month through our Healing Help medical donation program to treat patients suffering from leprosy in Calcutta. A staff member wrote that when she stopped by the CMMB distribution center, she “…always had time to visit all of the staff and express her thanks.”

We are blessed and humbled by a direct connection to Mother Teresa, her community, and her work. She is a constant reminder of CMMB’s mission to serve the poor with love and respect.

Just as Jesus offers His bread and wine to nourish us, our values call us to provide the poor and vulnerable access to food, clean water, and basic healthcare. For many of the women and children we serve, we are their only hope.
